CPV (Contact Point Verification) Services for Banks, NBFCs & Fintechs

Residence and office verification that plugs into your loan origination workflow. Every visit is geo-tagged, photographed live and reported back in a standard format, so your credit team decides on evidence instead of chasing local agencies for status updates.

What is CPV (Contact Point Verification)?

Contact Point Verification is the process of physically confirming that a loan applicant can be found at the addresses and phone numbers they have declared. In Indian lending it usually covers two contact points: the place where the applicant lives and the place where they work or run a business. A field executive visits each address, meets the applicant or a family member, colleague or neighbour, and records what they observe in a structured report.

CPV sits between document-based KYC and the final credit decision. KYC, including a CKYC lookup, tells you the documents are genuine; CPV tells you the person behind them is real, reachable and stable at the address they gave. That matters for collections too: an address verified at onboarding is the address your recovery team will rely on later. For a deeper explanation, see our CPV glossary entry and the guide what is CPV in loans in India.

Residence Verification (RV)

Residence verification confirms that the applicant stays at the declared home address. Our field executives typically capture:

  • Whether the applicant or a family member was met, and their relationship
  • Ownership status: owned, rented, company-provided or family-owned
  • Years at the current address and in the city
  • Type and condition of the dwelling and locality
  • Name plate, landmark and premises photographs
  • Neighbour or society confirmation where the applicant is unavailable

Office and Business Verification (BV)

Office or business verification confirms that the employer or business exists at the stated address and that the applicant is genuinely associated with it. Typical observations include:

  • Signboard, name board and visible business activity
  • Applicant's designation or role, confirmed with a colleague or HR for salaried files
  • Nature of business, approximate staff count and stock or footfall for self-employed files
  • Premises ownership and years at the location
  • Cross-check with GST registration and declared business address
  • Photographs of the premises, interior and signage

How Our CPV Process Works

The traditional CPV loop is email, spreadsheet and phone calls to an agency. We replace it with a tracked, end-to-end workflow that starts and ends inside your systems.

  1. Trigger from your LOS or API

A CPV request is raised automatically when an application reaches the verification stage in your loan origination system, or pushed through a REST API or bulk upload. Applicant name, addresses, contact numbers and product type travel with the request, so nobody re-keys data.

  2. Pin-code based allocation

The case is routed to a verified field executive mapped to that pin code, based on proximity, current workload and language. Urgent or high-ticket cases can be prioritised by rules you define.

  3. Geo-tagged field visit

The executive visits the residence or business address using a mobile app that records GPS coordinates and timestamps. The captured location is compared with the declared address, so a desk-filled or proxy visit is flagged.

  4. Photo and liveness capture

In-app photos of the premises, name plate, landmark and, where consented, the applicant are captured live. Gallery uploads are blocked, and liveness and face-match checks help confirm the person met is the person who applied.

  5. Neighbour and reference check

Where the applicant is unavailable or details need corroboration, the executive records a neighbour, society guard or shopkeeper confirmation of stay or business existence, with a structured questionnaire rather than free text.

  6. Report lands in your LOS

A standardised report with a positive, negative or refer-to-credit outcome, observations, photos and geo-coordinates is posted back to your LOS or dashboard, ready for the credit officer to act on.

CPV Turnaround Time and Coverage

CPV is delivered through CarmaOne's pan-India field network, the same on-ground presence that powers CARMA Recover field collections, spanning 22+ states and 14,000+ pin codes. Executives are local to the areas they cover, which helps with vernacular conversations and with finding addresses that are described by landmarks rather than house numbers.

Turnaround depends on where the address is. In metros and large cities, visits are typically completed the same day or the next working day. Tier-2 and tier-3 towns usually follow within a short window, and remote rural pin codes can take longer. Rather than quoting one national number, we agree TAT by pin-code cluster before go-live and show live status and ageing for every case, so delays are visible early.

Digital CPV and Fraud Detection

Most CPV fraud in India is not elaborate. It is the visit that never happened, the photo reused from an earlier file, or the address that belongs to a friend of a loan agent. Digital CPV is built to close those gaps:

Geo-fencing and GPS match

Capture location is compared with the geocoded applicant address; visits outside an acceptable radius are flagged for review.

Live-only photo capture

Photos are taken inside the app with embedded time and location, and gallery uploads are not allowed.

Liveness and face match

Where the applicant consents, a live selfie can be matched against the KYC photo to confirm identity at the contact point.

Duplicate and pattern checks

The same address, phone or photo appearing across unrelated applications is surfaced as a possible fraud ring signal.

CPV evidence is most useful when it is read alongside financial data. Combined with GST, bureau and bank-statement analysis in CARMA Assess, it gives a fuller picture for credit underwriting. If you are weighing a traditional agency against software, read CPV agency vs digital CPV software.

CPV vs Field Investigation vs Tele-Verification

The three terms are often used interchangeably, but they answer different questions. Most credit policies use them in layers, matched to ticket size and risk.

Compliance: RBI KYC, Outsourcing and DPDP Act

RBI KYC Master Direction. The RBI Master Directions on KYC require regulated entities to verify customer identity and address and to apply a risk-based approach. CPV is one of the ways lenders evidence address verification and ongoing due diligence for higher-risk segments, and our reports are structured to be retained as part of the customer file.

Outsourcing guidelines. When a bank or NBFC outsources verification, RBI's outsourcing guidelines expect it to retain responsibility, conduct due diligence on the service provider, protect customer confidentiality and keep audit and inspection rights. Our workflow keeps a complete, time-stamped trail of who visited, when, where and what was recorded, which supports your vendor oversight and internal audit.

DPDP Act, 2023. Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, CarmaOne acts on your instructions for the verification purpose you define. Field executives see only the data needed for the visit, access is through an authenticated app instead of printed sheets, and photos and reports are not stored on personal devices.

CPV Pricing Model

CPV is priced per case, so cost scales with your disbursal volume rather than a fixed retainer. The per-case rate typically depends on:

  • Check type: residence only, office only, or both on the same file
  • Location category of the pin code: metro, urban, semi-urban or rural
  • Required TAT, including priority or same-day cases
  • Add-ons such as neighbour checks, revisits or liveness capture

Integration with your LOS is part of onboarding, not a separate project. Share your product mix and geography and we will send a rate card. To see where CPV fits in the end-to-end credit process, read the NBFC credit underwriting process guide.

CPV by City

CPV Verification FAQs

What is CPV in loan processing?

CPV, or Contact Point Verification, is the check a lender runs to confirm that an applicant actually lives at the residence address and works or runs a business at the office address declared in the loan application. It is usually done through a physical visit by a field executive, supported by photos, geo-tags and a structured report, and is a standard step in retail and MSME underwriting in India.

What is the difference between residence verification and office verification?

Residence verification (RV) confirms that the applicant stays at the declared home address, along with details such as ownership or rental status, years at the address and family details. Office or business verification (BV/OV) confirms that the employer or business exists at the stated address, that the applicant works there or runs it, and gives an indication of the nature and scale of activity. Many lenders run both for the same file.

How long does a CPV take?

Turnaround depends on location and case type. In metros and large towns, CPV is typically completed on the same day or the next working day. In semi-urban and rural pin codes it can take a little longer. CarmaOne agrees TAT expectations with each lender by pin-code cluster and tracks every case against them on the dashboard.

Can CPV be done digitally?

Partly. Digital CPV uses a mobile app to capture geo-tagged, time-stamped photos, liveness checks and structured responses, and can be combined with video verification or tele-verification for lower-risk files. A physical visit is still the most reliable evidence for higher-risk or higher-ticket cases, so most lenders use a risk-based mix rather than a fully remote process.

Is CPV mandatory under RBI guidelines?

The RBI KYC Master Direction requires regulated entities to verify the identity and address of customers and to follow a risk-based approach, but it does not prescribe a physical CPV for every loan. Most lenders make CPV part of their credit policy for specific products and risk segments. If you outsource CPV, the RBI outsourcing guidelines apply, and the lender remains responsible for the outsourced activity.

How does CarmaOne handle borrower data during CPV?

Applicant data is shared with field executives only to the extent needed for the visit, is accessed through the app rather than paper files, and is processed for the verification purpose your institution defines. The workflow is designed to support your obligations under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, including purpose limitation, consent and access controls.

How is CPV priced?

CPV is priced per case. The rate usually depends on the type of check (residence, office or both), the location category of the pin code, the TAT required and any add-ons such as neighbour checks or revisits. We share a rate card after understanding your product mix and geography.

Which locations does CarmaOne cover for field verification?
