The credit appraisal memo is where an Indian lender's underwriting effort finally turns into a decision. It is also where most of the time goes. An analyst copies figures out of bank statement reports, GST returns, bureau files and audited financials, works out FOIR or DSCR, writes the commentary and then chases approvals. For a business loan, that routinely takes days. CAM software (also sold as Auto-CAM or credit memo automation) builds the memo from source data and leaves the analyst to edit the judgement sections.
This guide ranks seven tools that, according to their own websites or reputable press coverage, generate a credit appraisal memo or credit memo for lenders. We only kept vendors that explicitly describe CAM or credit memo generation. Several well-known Indian lending platforms do not mention CAM output on their public pages, so we left them out rather than guess. If you need the full process first, including what each CAM section means, read our end-to-end credit underwriting process guide. This post covers the tools.

What a Good CAM Contains (the Short Version)
A CAM records why a loan was sanctioned, modified or declined, and who approved it. The section-by-section detail is in the underwriting guide linked above. For evaluating software, four things matter:
- Evidence: bureau, GST, bank statement, ITR and financial statement data, each figure traceable to its source.
- Computation: eligibility and ratios such as FOIR for retail and DSCR for business loans, calculated consistently against your policy.
- Judgement: risks, mitigants, deviations and the analyst's recommendation, written by a person.
- Governance: routing to the right sanctioning authority under the delegation-of-power (DoP) matrix, with an audit trail an RBI inspector can follow.
A good CAM tool automates the first two, gives a clean editing surface for the third, and enforces the fourth.

The Rankings, Explained
#1 CarmaOne Auto-CAM (CARMA Core and CARMA Assess)
CarmaOne Auto-CAM is the automated credit appraisal memo engine in CARMA Core. It reads financial statements, GST returns, bank statements and bureau data together and cross-checks them for consistency. It then puts together a committee-ready credit memo in under 10 minutes, where manual preparation normally takes 2 to 3 days. It flags contradictions between what GST filings, bank inflows and bureau records say about a borrower. It gives confidence-rated recommendations instead of a black-box score.
The inputs come from the same platform. GST analysis runs 2,200+ automated checks. Bank statement analysis parses PDFs from 77+ Indian bank channels. Financial statement analysis auto-spreads the balance sheet and P&L into ratios, including DSCR, with industry benchmarking. Approvals run through configurable DoP matrices. CARMA Core keeps a full audit trail of every action, comment and approval, and it is SOC 2 Type II certified and ISO 27001 compliant. For diligence-heavy files, CARMA Assess combines 13 core data engines (GST, MCA, bureau, litigation and bank statements among them) into a single verdict in under 5 minutes. Lenders using it typically cut analyst time from about three hours per file to about 15 minutes.
Why we ranked it first: Most CAM tools stop at the memo. CarmaOne Auto-CAM sits in the same data model as origination, the credit underwriting workflow, disbursement and early warning signals. The memo, the approval and the post-sanction monitoring therefore all work from one record. In a live growth-stage NBFC deployment, CARMA Core delivered 8x faster disbursement end to end with the same team. Auto-CAM is also sold as a standalone pay-per-use API, so you can add it next to an existing LOS. Standard deployment takes 4 to 6 weeks. Watch for: if you only want a one-off memo generator on top of a mature LOS, use the modular API rather than the full stack.
#2 Perfios CAM and CAM AI
According to its website, Perfios CAM collects data through ePDF and scanned uploads, online fetch and Account Aggregator flows. It cross-analyses metrics across bank, GST, ITR, financial statements, MCA, bureau and EPFO data, and prepares a CAM with eligibility based on the lender's credit policy. Perfios claims an 80% reduction in CAM preparation time. Its CreditAssist page lists a turnaround of under one minute for CAM reports and says the product pulls in data from 750+ alternative sources. In August 2025, Perfios launched CAM AI. Press coverage of the launch says it cuts underwriting turnaround by up to 85%, produces audit-ready memos, and is deployed at 50+ institutions across India, SEA and MENA. These are vendor figures. Best for: lenders already paying for Perfios analysers who want the memo from the same provider.
#3 HyperVerge AI Underwriting Agents
HyperVerge's blog describes CAM generation with unified extraction across GST, bank statements, ITR, MCA, EPFO and KYC. It says the memos are aligned to each lender's business rule engine. In September 2026, CXOToday reported that HyperVerge launched a suite of AI agents for business loan underwriting at Global Fintech Fest 2026. The suite covers financial underwriting, video personal discussion and background due diligence. In pilots with about 10 mid-size lenders, a credit appraisal memo that took four hours came back in under 10 minutes in the lender's own format. Best for: lenders who also want to automate PD notes and promoter due diligence.
#4 Novel Patterns CAM Automation
Novel Patterns positions itself as AI lending and investment software for banks and NBFCs. Its CAM Automation page describes turning borrower data, financial analysis, bank statement intelligence, policy rules, scorecards, deviations and approval notes into a structured memo. It offers configurable templates by product, segment, business unit and risk policy, and routes memos to maker-checker and sanction workflows. It also records evidence lineage, policy version, calculation trace and approval history. Of all the third-party vendors here, it has the most governance-oriented public description. Best for: credit policy teams that care most about template control and traceability.
#5 Paperli
Paperli's banking and NBFC page lists automated credit appraisal memorandums. It says the product generates board-ready CAMs from validated financial and compliance data on Indian companies, and it describes the platform as built to support compliance with RBI, SEBI and NBFC frameworks. The public page does not say much about ratio logic, workflow or audit. Best for: corporate and mid-market credit teams that mainly need company data assembled into a CAM.
#6 Oracle Banking Origination (LOS with CAM module)
This is a loan origination system, not a dedicated CAM tool. Oracle's public documentation for Oracle Banking Origination includes standard Credit Appraisal Memorandum advice templates for loan and CASA products. They cover the applicant profile, credit bureau analysis, and the assessment and credit decision. The CAM is a by-product of the origination workflow rather than an AI-drafted memo. Best for: banks already on the Oracle banking stack that want a standard CAM format inside origination.
#7 Botminds Credit Memo Generation
Botminds lists its headquarters in Seattle and product engineering in Chennai. It describes a first-draft credit memo in the lender's template, with every figure cited to its source page and spreading it claims is 5x faster than manual. The page says the platform makes no credit decision and that every memo needs human approval. It does not mention Indian lenders or CAM by name, so treat it as a global document AI option. Best for: corporate credit teams with long, document-heavy files.
Build instead of buy? Some large lenders build their own. Tata Capital has publicly described an in-house AI system that reads input documents and generates a structured CAM report of 20+ pages. That route needs a sizeable data and engineering team. For a wider view of decisioning platforms beyond the memo, see our top 10 credit underwriting software in India.
How to Choose CAM Software: A Checklist
- ☐ Source coverage: does it pull bureau, GST, bank statements (including AA), ITR, MCA and financials without re-keying?
- ☐ Cross-source checks: does it flag GST turnover that disagrees with bank inflows, or bureau exposure missing from the statements?
- ☐ Ratio logic: are FOIR, DSCR, DBR and LTV calculated to your policy definitions, with the formula visible?
- ☐ Template control: can the credit policy team change CAM sections by product without a vendor release?
- ☐ Editable judgement: can analysts edit risks, mitigants and recommendations, with machine and human text kept apart?
- ☐ DoP routing: does the memo route itself to the correct sanctioning authority based on amount, deviation and risk grade?
- ☐ Audit trail: is every edit, comment and approval time-stamped and exportable for internal audit and RBI inspection?
- ☐ Traceability: can you click a figure in the memo and see the source document?
- ☐ Deployment: standalone API, LOS plug-in or full platform? Ask for the realistic go-live time.
- ☐ Proof: ask for memo generation time on your own sample files, not on the vendor's demo case.
